[June 30, 2017]  June 29 (The Sports Xchange) - The Atlanta Braves designated right-hander Bartolo Colon for assignment, the team announced Thursday.

The Braves called up left-hander Rex Brothers from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill the roster spot of Colon, who owns a 2-8 mark with a bloated 8.14 ERA this season.

The decline has been swift for the 44-year-old Colon after he won 62 games over the previous four seasons. The four-time All-Star was a solid 15-8 with a 3.43 ERA for the New York Mets in 2016.

The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-hander Chase Anderson on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

Anderson sustained the injury while swinging in his first at-bat of Milwaukee's 4-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.

Anderson has a 6-2 record with a 2.89 ERA this season. Right-handed pitcher Jorge Lopez was called up from Double-A Biloxi to fill Anderson's roster spot.

Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant missed Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals with an ankle injury, but he does not expect to go on the disabled list.

Last year's National League MVP was injured when he stepped on third base awkwardly after catching a foul popup.

His injury was diagnosed as a mild sprain.

The Chicago White Sox placed struggling right-handed reliever Jake Petricka on the 10-day disabled list.

Petricka is dealing with a strain in his pitching elbow. He had a poor outing on Wednesday when he allowed five runs in one inning against the New York Yankees. Petricka possesses a 9.28 ERA in nine appearances for the White Sox.

Right-hander Juan Minaya was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move.

Asdrubal Cabrera has changed his tune in regard to his request to be traded from the New York Mets.

Cabrera told the New York Post that he wishes to remain with the team. The stance comes less than a week after the 31-year-old Venezuelan requested a trade because the Mets moved him from shortstop to second base.

He was shuffled to second after the team learned that Neil Walker was slated to miss several weeks with a hamstring tear.

--

Texas Rangers right-hander Andrew Cashner was activated from the 10-day disabled list and started Thursday afternoon's game against the Cleveland Indians.

Right-hander Preston Claiborne was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to open a roster spot for Cashner, who had been sidelined with a left oblique strain. ))
