Logan County Joint Solid Waste Agency and city of Lincoln to offer FREE TV/computer monitor recycling for Logan County residents
 

[June 30, 2017]  LINCOLN - The Logan County Joint Solid Waste Agency in collaboration with the City of Lincoln will be offering free TV/Computer Monitor Recycling. The collection is restricted to Logan County residents; proof of residency (Photo ID) will be required prior to unloading items. The collection will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 9 AM till noon at the Logan County Fairgrounds. Recyclers are to enter the fairgrounds through the Main Gate (off Postville Drive) and proceed around the north end of the racetrack. The collection area will be staged at the ticket building near the Jefferson Street entrance. Recyclers will exit the collection through the Jefferson Street gate.

Recyclers will be limited to five (5) consumer electronic items. TVs including console, projection, and flat-screen as well as computer monitors will be accepted. Any TV or computer monitors with broken screens or exposed CRT (Cathode Ray Tubes) will not be accepted.

This special event is being offered by the city and the LCJSWA, but is open to all residents of Logan County.

Due to the expected large turnout, the event will be limited to no more than three semi trailers. When those are full, the collections will have to stop for this day. The LCJSWA is hopeful that additional collection dates may be established for the future.

The city of Lincoln will pay for the first semi trailer at a cost of $400. and will provide equipment and labor for loading the trailers.

Additional trailers will be paid for by the LCJSWA. Donations will be accepted by the LCJSWA to assist in covering the cost of the additional trailers. If donations exceed the cost they will be set aside for future events.

Habitat for Humanity will also be hold their monthly Electronics Recycling collection on the same date and time for all other household electronic items. Habitat for Humanity is located approximately one block away on the corner of Jefferson and Woodlawn Streets.

Since January 1, 2012, the State of Illinois has banned most electronics from disposal in landfills due hazardous materials they contain and the increasing volume of electronic materials.
