MLB roundup: Tebow 0-for-3 in Mets debut

Getting a game for the first tiem in the major league camp, Mets designated hitter Tim Tebow fanned twice and bounced into a run-scoring double play as a New York split squad outscored the Boston Red Sox 8-7 on Wednesday in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Jay Bruce cracked a two-run homer for the Mets as they touched American League Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello for five hits and four runs in three-plus innings. Allen Craig belted a two-run shot for the Red Sox.

Mets (ss) 12, Astros 2

Charlie Morton pitched three hitless innings, fanning four, and earned the win as Houston routed a New York split squad in West Palm Beach, Fla. Teoscar Hernandez and A.J. Reed belted homers for the Astros, and Yulieski Gurriel added a two-run double. Asdrubal Cabrera launched a solo homer for the Mets.

Braves 3, Phillies 2

Micah Johnson's RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh inning snapped a tie and lifted Atlanta past Philadelphia in Kissimmee, Fla. Nick Markakis added a two-run double in the third for the Braves, which got one-hit pitching for three innings from starter Bartolo Colon. Jeremy Hellickson worked four innings for the Phillies, allowing five hits and two runs.

Orioles 6, Blue Jays 4

Craig Gentry and Seth Smith each clubbed homers as Baltimore beat Toronto in Sarasota, Fla. Lourdes Gurriel jacked a three-run homer for the Blue Jays that brought them within 5-4 in the seventh, but they got no closer. Wade Miley pitched three shutout innings to earn the victory for the Orioles, fanning three.


Cardinals 9, Nationals 3

Washington starter Stephen Strasburg was peppered for seven hits and six runs in two innings as St. Louis cruised in Jupiter, Fla. Michael Wacha fired three scoreless innings for the Cardinals, fanning three. Harrison Bader was 2-for-4 with a solo homer for St. Louis. Dexter Fowler and Aledmys Diaz each collected two hits and two runs.

Angels 9, Reds 0

Mike Trout went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI as Los Angeles blanked Cincinnati in Goodyear, Ariz. Starter Ricky Nolasco spun three scoreless innings to earn the win. The Angels' Nolan Fontana cracked a solo homer in the ninth, and Ben Revere went 3-for-3 with a run and a stolen base. Reds starter Amir Garrett allowed five unearned runs in the second thanks to his throwing error.

Brewers (ss) 7, Dodgers 2

Jesus Aguilar belted a two-run homer as a Milwaukee split squad toppled Los Angeles in Maryvale, Ariz. Brewers starter Junior Guerra gave up two hits over three innings, including a solo homer by Joc Pederson, and fanned two to earn the win. Dodgers starter Rich Hill lasted only 1 2/3 innings, allowing four walks and three runs.

Brewers (ss) 5, White Sox 4

Ivan De Jesus Jr. walloped a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning as a Milwaukee split squad rallied to beat Chicago in Glendale, Ariz. The Brewers also received solo homers from Lewis Brinson and Travis Shaw, while Tyler Saladino belted a two-run shot for the White Sox. Avisail Garcia and Rymer Liriano also went deep for Chicago.

Indians 14, Mariners 6

Carlos Carrasco tossed three hitless innings with a pair of strikeouts as Cleveland clobbered Seattle in Peoria, Ariz. Adam Moore cracked a grand slam in the seventh for the Indians, who got a three-run shot from Jose Ramirez and a two-run blast from Erik Kratz. Hisashi Iwakuma worked two scoreless inning as the Mariners' starter.
