MLB roundup: Phillies' Eickhoff sharp against Braves

Jerad Eickhoff tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and fanning five, as the Philadelphia Phillies blanked the Atlanta Braves 9-0 on Tuesday in Clearwater, Fla. Brock Stassi belted a two-run homer in the seventh inning to highlight the Phillies' 11-hit attack and Tyler Goeddel slashed a two-run triple. Braves starter Aaron Blair gave up six hits and three runs in four innings.

Mets 2, Astros 1

Yoenis Cespedes drilled a two-run homer in the third inning, accounting for New York's offense in a win over Houston in West Palm Beach, Fla. Brian McCann's solo shot in the fourth was Houston's only meaningful offense. The Mets got four innings from starter Jacob deGrom, who fanned six. Tim Tebow went hitless in his only at-bat.

Tigers 7, Marlins 1

Justin Upton cracked a three-run homer in the fifth as Detroit subdued Miami in Jupiter, Fla. Anthony Gose was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Tigers, while starter Matt Boyd whiffed five and gave up just three hits in five scoreless innings. Matt den Dekker homered in the eighth inning for the Marlins' only run.

Rays (ss) 10, Yankees 6

Rickie Weeks belted a solo homer and a two-run double to lift a Tampa Bay split squad over New York in Port Charlotte, Fla. Dayron Varona added a two-run homer in the fifth for the Rays, while Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres hit the long ball for the Yankees. Torres also added a two-run double.

Rays (ss) 9, Orioles 6

Corey Dickerson went 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI as a Tampa Bay split squad outscored Baltimore in Sarasota, Fla. Steven Souza added three hits and three RBI for the Rays, who finished with 19 hits. Joey Rickard, Paul Janish and Chris Dickerson each crashed solo homers for the Orioles, which compiled 13 hits.

Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 4

Steve Selsky's two-run double in the bottom of the eighth lifted Boston to a win over Toronto in Fort Myers, Fla. Mitch Moreland added a two-run single for the Red Sox, which got two innings, two hits and two runs out of starter Drew Pomeranz. Melvin Upton and Mike Ohlman each cracked solo homers for the Blue Jays.

Royals 8, Angels 4

Both starting pitchers turned in outstanding performances as Kansas City doubled up Los Angeles in Surprise, Ariz. The Angels' Chris Shoemaker cruised through four innings, allowing just one hit, and the Royals' Ian Kennedy fanned five in 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Carlos Perez homered for Los Angeles and Peter O'Brien cracked a two-run shot for Kansas City.

Brewers 7, Cubs 7

Kris Bryant belted his third homer of the spring as Chicago and Milwaukee played to a tie in Mesa, Ariz. Willson Contreras and Chris Dominguez also went deep for the Cubs, with Dominguez's bomb tying the game in the bottom of the ninth. Eric Thames clocked a solo homer for the Brewers, while Dustin Houle added a two-run single in the ninth that made it 7-6.

Diamondbacks 12, Rangers 0

Chris Iannetta, Ildemaro Vargas and Chris Owings all homered as Arizona walloped Texas. The Diamondbacks scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning, getting a two-run single from David Peralta and a two-run double from Brandon Drury. Patrick Corbin allowed just one hit in five innings for Arizona, whiffing five.

Giants 6, Indians 5

A five-run first inning was the difference as San Francisco held off Cleveland in Goodyear, Ariz. Jarrett Parker and Justin Ruggiano each touched Josh Tomlin for two-run homers, while Brandon Belt singled home runs in both his at-bats. Jose Ramirez was 2-for-2 with an RBI to lead the Indians' 15-hit attack.

Mariners 7, White Sox 6

Tyler Smith belted a three-run homer and a ground-rule double to lift Seattle over Chicago in Peoria, Ariz. Starter James Paxton pitched four innings for the win, allowing three hits and a run with four strikeouts. Yolmer Sanchez and Everth Cabrera launched homers for the White Sox, with Cabrera finishing with three RBI.

Dodgers 6, Reds 5

Yasmani Grandal's two-run homer triggered a six-run bottom of the fourth that gave Los Angeles a win over Cincinnati. Logan Forsythe added a two-run double to finish the uprising for the Dodgers, which got 3 2/3 innings of one-hit ball from starter Rich Hill. Gabriel Guerrero slapped a two-run single to lead the Reds' offense.

Rockies 4, Athletics 3

Two-out RBI singles by Mike Tauchman and Sam Hilliard capped a four-run ninth inning rally that lifted Colorado to a victory over Oakland in Mesa, Ariz. Anthony Bemboom started the uprising with a two-run homer. Josh Phegley and Jed Lowrie collected run-scoring singles for the Athletics, which got 3 2/3 scoreless innings from Sean Manaea.
