Mount Pulaski suffers three on the diamonds

[May 08, 2017]    The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers did manage to squeeze in games between the downpours but suffered three losses on the week.

 

Delavan downed the Hilltoppers 7-2 on Tuesday last week. A hot-hitting Tanner Farris led Mount Pulaski by going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

On Wednesday Athens/Greenview edged out the Hilltoppers 8-6.

Jonathan Shehorn led Mount Pulaski at the plate with two hits and a run scored. Mount Pulaski pounded out eight hits as a team, with Braydin Lanners, Todd Kelly, Ben Fricke, Logan DeRight, Eli Olson and Tanner Farris each having hits. Fricke, DeRight and Olson were credited with RBIs in the losing effort.

Then on Friday it was Illini Central getting the best of Mount Pulaski in a 10-8 contest.

The game was tied at 5-5 going into the final inning. The Cougars scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead and Mount Pulaski could only put three runs across the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning. T

he 10-8 loss was a tough one to take no doubt at home on the Bob Gasaway Field. Todd Kelly led the Hilltoppers offense by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Logan DeRight was 2-for-4 with one RBI. Mount Pulaski did have nine hits, with Joey Davis, Braydin Lanners, Eli Olson, Tanner Farris and Jon Shehorn also getting hits.

Mount Pulaski’s record falls to 4-15 on the season with the Hilltoppers scheduled to travel to Niantic today to take on Sangamon Valley/Tri-City at 4:30 p.m.
