[May 10, 2017]    May 9 (The Sports Xchange) - New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey apologized for his actions on Tuesday after his three-day suspension for missing a game concluded.

 

Harvey said he was embarrassed by his actions, which included late-night activities on Friday and golfing on Saturday morning before failing to show up for Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins.

The northern San Diego County community in which baseball legend Tony Gwynn resided erected a statue in honor of the late San Diego Padres star Tuesday on what would have been his 57th birthday.

The town of Poway unveiled the memorial statue at Lake Poway Park during a ceremony. The 11-foot bronze statue displays Gwynn in a Padres' uniform and tipping his cap while holding daughter, Anisha.

Veteran right-handed relief pitcher Casey Fien was traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Philadelphia Phillies for cash considerations.

Fien, 33, signed with Seattle as a free agent on Dec. 3, 2016. The former 20th round draft pick was 0-0 with a 15.00 ERA in six appearances with the Mariners this season before being outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on May 3.
