[May 12, 2017]  May 11 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Thursday's Major League Baseball games:

Rangers 5, Padres 2

Mike Napoli crushed a three-run homer in the ninth to lift the Texas Rangers to a 5-2, comeback victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday night.

Napoli's blast was his second in the game. Texas trailed 2-0 going into the eighth before Napoli's solo shot off San Diego starter Clayton Richard pulled the Rangers within one. That started the rally that continued in the ninth against Padres closer Brandon Maurer.

Diamondbacks 2, Pirates 1

Zack Greinke was nearly unhittable, coming six outs away from his first no-hitter in 14 seasons and leading Arizona over Pittsburgh.

Greinke (4-2) tied a season high by striking out 11 in eight innings. The only hit he allowed was Gregory Polanco's solo home run leading off the eighth.

Astros 3, Yankees 2

Dallas Keuchel remained unbeaten by pitching six effective innings, and Carlos Correa hit an early homer as Houston held off New York.

Keuchel (6-0) allowed an unearned run on five hits and a walk, and he tied a season high with nine strikeouts to become the first six-game winner in the majors. Including his showing in the 2015 wild-card game at Yankee Stadium, Keuchel is 5-2 with a 1.42 ERA in eight career starts against the Yankees.

Rockies 10, Dodgers 7

Carlos Gonzalez recorded a season-high three RBIs as Colorado built a 10-0 lead before holding off Los Angeles.

The Dodgers' season-high five-game winning streak ended as the Rockies, who have won five of their past six games, beat them for the fourth time in six tries this season. Colorado is off to the best start in franchise history (23-13).

Reds 3, Giants 2

Zack Cozart's second double of the game scored Scooter Gennett with the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning as Cincinnati continued its dominance over San Francisco.

Bronson Arroyo combined with three relievers to scatter 11 hits for the Reds, who recorded 13-3, 14-2 and 4-0 victories over the Giants last weekend in a historically lopsided three-game sweep. Wandy Peralta (2-0), the third Cincinnati pitcher, held the Giants scoreless in the eighth before closer Raisel Iglesias stranded the potential tying run at third base in the ninth for his seventh save.

Tigers 7, Angels 1

Michael Fulmer continued his exceptional work on the mound, and Justin Upton and Andrew Romine slugged early home runs to lead Detroit over Los Angeles.

Upton belted a three-run homer to center in the first, and Romine ripped a two-run bullet down the right-field line in the second to stake Fulmer to a 5-0 lead. Fulmer (4-1), the 2016 American League Rookie of the Year, allowed one run and three hits in seven innings. He struck out seven, walked two and hit a batter.

Blue Jays 7, Mariners 2

Justin Smoak had four RBIs, Steve Pearce hit a three-run homer, and Marco Estrada struck out eight in six innings as Toronto defeated Seattle.

Smoak had three hits, including a solo home run, and a walk for the Blue Jays, who have won two games in a row for only the third time this season. Estrada (2-2) allowed four hits, three walks and two runs.

Red Sox 4, Brewers 1

Mookie Betts hit a three-run homer in the ninth off Neftali Feliz as Boston salvaged the finale of its three-game series with Milwaukee.

Betts reached base in four of his five plate appearances and went 7-for-11 with two home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs in the series. Betts opened the game with a double and scored on an error by Brewers first baseman Jesus Aguilar.

Twins 7, White Sox 6

Eduardo Escobar went 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs as Minnesota held on to defeat Chicago.

The Twins won both games of the rain-shortened series. Minnesota's Ryan Pressly (1-2) struck out all three batters in the seventh inning. Brandon Kintzler worked 1 2/3 innings for his eighth save.

Royals 6, Rays 0

Jason Vargas pitched seven innings and allowed three hits to lead Kansas City past Tampa Bay.

Whit Merrifield homered and drove in two runs and Salvador Perez also knocked in two for the Royals. Vargas (5-1) lowered his major-league-leading ERA to 1.01. It was his fourth start of at least six scoreless innings.

Orioles at Nationals, ppd.

The interleague game between Washington and Baltimore was postponed because of rain.

The game will be made up June 8, the day after the Nationals conclude a West Coast trip. The Orioles are at home June 7 against the Pittsburgh Pirates and begin a series at the New York Yankees on June 9.
