Mount Pulaski baseball season comes to an end in the first round of Regionals

[May 16, 2017]    May 12, 2017 - Mount Pulaski High School baseball seniors Eli Olson and Eli Griesheim pose after a game versus Warrensburg-Latham. The Hilltoppers seniors saw their high school baseball careers come to an end in the first round of Regionals Monday afternoon.

 

The Hilltoppers lost 13-6 to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.

Last Monday the Hilltoppers picked up win number five on the season with an 11-5 victory over Sangamon Valley/Tri-City.

With the score tied 1-1 in the top of the third inning, Mount Pulaski’s bats heated up and the Hilltoppers scored three runs. The Hilltoppers added four more runs in the fourth inning and three more runs in the fifth inning.

Offensively for Mount Pulaski Todd Kelly, Ben Fricke and Logan DeRight each had two hits. DeRight slugged two doubles and batted in three runs while Tanner Farris’ only hit was huge. Farris had a triple and drove in three runs. Brandon Kretzinger and Jon Shehorn also had hits for Mount Pulaski. On the mound DeRight earned the victory.

Mount Pulaski went on to suffer a 10-2 loss to Havana last week and a 10-0 loss to Warrensburg-Latham.

With the 13-6 loss in the opening round of the Regionals the Hilltoppers season comes to an end with a 5-18 record.
