Millikin University Spring 2017 Commencement ceremonies set for May 20-21

DECATUR - Millikin University’s Spring 2017 Commencement ceremonies for all graduating students will be held on the weekend of May 20-21, 2017.

Millikin’s traditional ceremony for students will be on Sunday, May 21 at 2 p.m. at the Decatur Civic Center. The commencement ceremony will be available for live stream viewing at millikin.edu/graduation.

Millikin will host a ceremony for graduates of its Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree Program on Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m. at Albert Taylor Theatre inside Shilling Hall on Millikin’s campus. Tickets are required for admission to both ceremonies.

Traditional Student Commencement

Millikin’s traditional commencement ceremony on May 21 will mark the graduation of approximately 340 students. Millikin alumnus and member of the Board of Trustees Eric Zollinger ’97, executive manager of sales for Douglas Elliman Development Marketing will deliver the commencement address.

Eric Zollinger resides in New York, N.Y., and graduated from Millikin University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts. In 2010, Zollinger founded and was president of Zollinger & Associates, a boutique real estate company. In the fall of 2015, Zollinger joined Douglas Elliman Development Marketing as their executive manager of sales to focus solely on new development. An avid runner and cyclist, Zollinger has competed in triathlons in New York City, Philadelphia and Chicago, as well as the Aids/Lifecyle Ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Zollinger joined the Millikin Board of Trustees in 2015.

Zollinger’s address is entitled “Part of the family; Part of the tradition; Part of the legacy.”

The ceremony will also include remarks by student Haley Hogenkamp, who is from St. Henry, Ohio, and will be graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a Minor in Music. Hogenkamp’s speech is entitled “A Personal Life of Meaning and Value.”

MBA Commencement

The commencement ceremony on May 20 will honor 30 students receiving their Master of Business Administration degree from Millikin University.

The commencement address will be delivered by Norman Oberto ’74. Norman Oberto graduated from Millikin University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. He was awarded the Major Thomas G. Storey Citizenship Award for Outstanding Engineering Graduate in 1974. He lives with his wife, Lori and three daughters in Northfield, Minn. Oberto’s address is entitled “Determining Your Path.”

The ceremony will also include a speech by Jeffrey Brown, who will be receiving his Master of Business Administration degree. Brown is a native of Milwaukee, Wis., and has been a Decatur resident since 1993. He is the executive director of rehabilitation and health & wellness at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Brown and his wife Therese have two children, Lauren and Connor. Brown’s speech is entitled “Value Added.”
