Lincoln softball splits with Charleston

[May 23, 2017]    The Railsplitters softball team split with Charleston last Friday night to end the regular season. Lincoln edged out Charleston 4-3 in game one and then fell to Charleston 10-2 in game two.

The game was tied 3-3 with Lincoln batting in the top of the eighth inning. Sydney Worth’s single drove in the winning run for the Railsplitters.

 

Worth, who was 2-for-4 in the game, also drove in two runs for Lincoln in the second inning when she singled.

Lincoln scored again in the third inning as Sydney Sutherland had an RBI single.

Charleston tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Lincoln had nine hits in the ballgame. Worth, Sutherland and Hope Moos each collected multiple hits for the Railsplitters. Sutherland led the offense with three hits.

Moos pitched the complete eight inning contest. She struck out two batters and allowed three runs on eight hits.

Friday was a long day for Lincoln, according to assistant coach Christian Tanner, as the team fell to Charleston 10-2 in game two.

Charleston took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. Charleston would go on to score six runs in the fifth inning and Lincoln could not recover.

Sydney Worth and Mackenzie Antoine each drove in runs for Lincoln. Antoine was also 3-for-3 for the Railsplitters. Chloe Laubenstein, Kerstin Osborne, Hope Moos, Lauren Block, Maddie Tanner and Worth each had base hits for Lincoln.

Osborne took the loss for Lincoln. She pitched six innings, allowing the ten runs on ten hits. Only four of the runs were earned. Osborne struck out two batters.

Lincoln ends the regular season with a 15-16 record. The team will begin regionals today. Lincoln is scheduled to play Rantoul tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Rantoul Regional.
