Railer baseball season comes to end in heartbreak loss to Titans

[May 30, 2017]   Saturday, May 27th just past noon on the Mike Curry Field saw the season finale for Lincoln baseball. Lincoln challenged Chatham Glenwood for the IHSA Class 3A Regional Championship.

It was a long hard fought game and promising to go overtime tied in the bottom of the seventh. With the Titans at bat, score 0-0, Glenwood's powerhouse Jacob Maton came up to bat.



Railer's star senior Austin Newton was on the mound and pitching strong.

With the crack of the bat, it was out of the park and game over, Chatham Glenwood 1-0, headed for sectionals.

Following the heartbreaker game, Lincoln Head Coach Mike Smania said:

"The boys played with so much heart and determination today. So proud of each and everyone of them.

"Thank you Seniors for all of your hard work and dedication through your years at LCHS. Hold your heads up high fellas.

"Thank you to all of the fans that showed so much support this year to this team.

"The future is bright for Railer Baseball. The years to come are going to be fun."

Continuing on in IHSA Class 3A Chatham Sectional Semi-Final play it will be Glenwood vs Effingham - Wednesday at 4:30, and SHG vs Champaign Central at 6:30 p.m.

Senior Austin Newton pitched outstanding as Lincoln suffered the heartbreaking 1-0 regional championship loss to Chatham Glenwood. Newton had a stellar senior season and will continue playing baseball at Illinois
College in Jacksonville.
