[May 30, 2017]   LINCOLN -  The Relay for Life of Logan County will hold its annual relay event on Saturday, June 17th at Lincoln College. Weather permitting the event will be held outside in the parking lot at the Lincoln Center. If the weather does not permit outdoor activity, the event will be moved inside to the Jack Nutt Arena.

This year, there will be changes to the schedule of events, beginning with a change of date for the annual Survivor Dinner.

The dinner, which is sponsored by local restaurant owner John Guzzardo will be held on Wednesday, June 14th from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Davidson-Sheffer Gymnasium at Lincoln College.

Survivors will receive an invitation to attend the dinner. If you are a Cancer survivor and do not receive your invitation, please call the Survivor Chair – Tonita Reifsteck at 217-855-1645 to register and receive a complete schedule. All survivors are invited to attend the dinner, even if they did not receive an invitation.

The Relay for Life event this year will begin at 3 p.m. and conclude at approximately 10 p.m.

Registration of Survivors will open at 3 p.m. with each registered survivor receiving a Survivor shirt and pin. New survivors will be given a shirt, pin, and a medallion.

The “Paint Your World Purple” themed event will begin with an opening ceremony at 3 p.m. which will include Relay historical facts and the introduction of this year’s Relay teams.

At 4 p.m. the Honorary Chairs and their caregivers will lead the Survivor Lap around the track.

Additional special laps and activities will follow throughout the evening.

At 9 p.m. a special “Reading of the Luminaria” will take place.

The event will come to a close at approximately 10 p.m.
