LINCOLN
Sophomore Marqisha Dunn pauses while placing an orange flag marker
in front of the student services center at Lincoln College Wednesday
morning. More than 130 flags were placed in remembrance of victims
of gun violence, especially those who were friends or relatives of
Lincoln College students. Dunn chairs the Impact and Awareness
Committee of the Student Activity Board and proposed the memorial to
raise awareness within the campus community of the personal and
psychological impact that gun violence can have on students.
Dunn, who is from Zion, personally had five friends and relatives
represented by the flags, and said she also wanted people to realize
that gun violence is not solely an urban problem and that students
from suburban and rural areas also experience gun violence.

The memorial is also being used to highlight the premiere of a
special documentary on how gun violence has touched the lives of a number of
Lincoln College students. The documentary, “Too Many to Count on Hands” –
Lincoln College’s Chicago, was produced by Radio, Television and New Media
students and will premiere at the Lincoln Film Festival this weekend on Saturday
and Sunday at 6:20 p.m. on Screen Six.
