Jimmy John's armed robbery suspect arrested

LINCOLN

On Saturday, October 21, 2017, at approximately 11:41 PM, the Lincoln Police Department was dispatched to 422 Keokuk St, Jimmy John’s Restaurant, for a report of an armed robbery that just occurred.

Lincoln Police Officers responded to learn the manager was closing up and was approached by a white male subject outside in the parking lot. After a brief conversation the suspect demanded the money from the manager and displayed a handgun. The suspect fled the scene with a small amount of currency in a northeasterly direction.

Due to tips received and an investigation by the Lincoln Police Department the suspect was determined to be Shawn C. Welch, 39, of Lincoln. Lincoln Police officers located Shawn Welch in a vehicle at the intersection of Williamette Ave and Kickapoo St on November 2, 2017, at 10:33 PM, and was arrested for Armed Robbery (Class X Felony), Obstructing a Peace Officer (Class A Misdemeanor), Driving with a Suspended Driver’s License (Class A Misdemeanor) and a Logan County Warrant.

This investigation is still open and in progress by the Lincoln Police Department, so further comments will be limited. The charges are merely allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. All reports will be forwarded to the Logan County State’s Attorney for review.
