[October 05, 2017]    LB Jason Thompson was signed from the practice squad. Thompson is an undrafted free agent from Utah who originally was with New England. He's a former college quarterback who converted to safety, but at 6-foot-2, 208 is considered a linebacker by the Bears. The move is pointed toward special teams, since the loss of Danny Trevathan and Nick Kwiatkoski means special teams players like Jonathan Anderson and John Timu will be playing more on defense.

WR Tre McBride was signed from the practice squad. He was initially signed after being cut by Tennessee.

LB Danny Trevathan had his suspension reduced to one game from two games for his hit on Davante Adams in the game against Green Bay. Losing Trevathan for one game couldn't come at a worse time for the defense, as they're still without Nick Kwiatkoski due to a pectoral injury. John Timu and Jonathan Anderson will join Christian Jones in playing inside linebacker. The Bears already put Jerrell Freeman on injured reserve with a pectoral muscle tear.
