Based on
Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters, Return to Spoon River,
by Francesco Conversano and Nene Grignaffini is presented by Cindy
Sinclair and John Stiltz at The Arlee Theater, 139 S. Main Street,
Mason City, Illinois on October 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM Admission is
$3.00 per person.
This is a documentary type movie that was filmed in black and white
in Menard and Fulton County by an Italian Film crew during 2014
using local resident “actors” from the Petersburg and Lewistown
area. The movie was filmed with English as the main language and for
the European viewing areas subtitles were added. It has been shown
in Italy and at the Torino Film Festival.
You won’t want to miss this viewing as it brings a totally new
understanding of the Spoon River Anthology using the creativity of
an award winning film crew from Italy. You will also have a chance
to see your friends or possibly relatives as cast members and most
likely have an opportunity to get their autographs.

The characters in Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology,
published in 1915, bore striking similarities to real personalities in Lewistown
and Petersburg, where Masters spent his formative years.
