[October 13, 2017]    Members of Lincoln’s High School tennis wrapped up their season with Sectional play at University High School and the ISU tennis courts in Normal Friday.

In singles, Grace Skelton lost to a Metamora player, 6-1, 6-2, and Madlen Tanner lost a close 7-6(5), 6-4 to her Eureka opponent.

In doubles, the team of Mary Toal/Maggie Hanger lost 6-3, 6-0 to Bloomington High School, and Alice Roate/Madelyn Koehler lost 6-4, 6-3 to their East Peoria opponents.

Coach Jan Dickerson commented, “I was, of course, hoping for a couple wins, and we were close on two matches. It’s a very tough Sectional, and it’s hard to see those close ones get away, especially since this has happened the last two weeks of the season. The team lost 5-4 to Decatur MacArthur, and 6-3 to each of East Peoria and Limestone. In each of those dual matches, there were several 7-5 sets; if just one or two had gone the other way, it would have made a big difference in the win/loss columns. At Rochester before that, Lincoln played four match tiebreaks, and three went to Rochester. But, I have seen some of our players really do their best, and show greatly improved play and shot selection in their last few matches.”
