The Lincoln College Women’s Volleyball team lost in three sets at Southwest Illinois College (SWIC) on Wednesday. The defeat takes the team to 17-11 on the season and 3-4 in Region 24 play.

The two teams traded side outs throughout the early going of set one all the way up to an 11-11 tie. At that point, LC setter Jenna Weller (Salt Fork) served four points in a row to give her team a 15-11 advantage. However, the lead would not last long as several unforced errors committed by the Lady Lynx would allow SWIC to tie the score at 20-20. Lincoln was unable to recover from the streak of sloppy play and dropped the set 25-21.

In set two, SWIC’s first server got hot early and was able to run off nine straight points to start the set. LC battled back to cut the lead to four points later in the set, but stalled and eventually fell 25-17. The momentum was clearly on SWIC’s side after the set two defeat and they used it to lead most of the way in set three for a 25-19 win to end the match.

Lincoln Coach Mark Tippett was disappointed in the outcome. “I felt we were in a good place going into this match, but for some reason we did not play with much confidence tonight. SWIC served us very well and we did not step up our game when we needed to in order to compete,” he said. I know we are capable of playing better than we did tonight.”

Lincoln will try to get back on track this weekend as they host the Hampton Inn Classic five-team round robin event. Lincoln will play on Friday at 3:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. and on Saturday at 9:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M.
