LINCOLN

Assuming that you are not one of the early birds who completed their Christmas shopping in mid-July, may we suggest that you pull out your Christmas list, and prepare to designate Saturday, October 28 as Shopping With a Purpose Day. Plan to do some serious, one of a kind, shopping this year at the Harvest of Talents for World Hunger, where the deals are hard to beat.

Harvest offers hundreds of items, perfect for Christmas gifts, birthdays, shower gifts, and anniversaries. You name the occasion, there is something for everyone, including a sweet gift just for yourself!

A new booth - the Man Cave, will debut at the 2017 Harvest, featuring items of special interest to the “guys” in our community.

On Saturday, come to the Harvest, enjoy homemade cinnamon and caramel pecan rolls for breakfast, or new this year a breakfast burrito. Spend the morning shopping, visiting with friends, and then hang around for a lunch with homemade vegetable soup, brisket and pulled pork sandwiches, deep fried potatoes, homemade pie and more. After relaxing a while, attend the exciting afternoon auction starting at 2 p.m.

Now, here is the exciting part! Tally up every penny you spent for food, shopping, and the auctions, and know that every penny you spent will go to feed hungry people around the world. If that isn’t a deal, and we at Harvest prefer to call it a “blessing,” then what is?

The day will feature handmade furniture, beautiful quilts and other stitchery, paintings, home décor, handmade jewelry, and many heirloom quality gifts and feed hungry people at the same time. Shoppers can also purchase baked goods and canned goods to stock your pantry for the coming holidays.

The Harvest of Talents Ministry extends a personal invitation to you and your family to join us for a fun, family day at the Lincoln Christian Church Fellowship Center. Doors open at 7 a.m. for breakfast and the sale of hundreds of handmade items. Lunch is served in the Fellowship Center with lots of tasty snacks available outdoors. Silent Auctions begin when the doors open. The day climaxes with the Main Auction at 2 p.m.

Every penny raised at the Harvest will be channeled through International Disaster Emergency Service, a Christian organization based in Noblesville, IN, to meet physical and spiritual needs worldwide In Jesus’ name.

In its thirty-four years of existence the Harvest of Talents for World Hunger, a unique ministry of Lincoln Christian Church, has raised $2,139,046.54 to meet hunger needs.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend a Celebration Service on Sunday following the Harvest in the Earl C. Hargrove Chapel on the Campus of Lincoln Christian University. Services begin at 10:00 a.m. with a moving and inspirational flag ceremony. As a part of the service a check will be presented to Rick Jett, representing International Disaster Emergency Service, for the proceeds of the 34th Annual Harvest of Talents.

Add to the mix entertainment for the kids and Harvest becomes a great way to spend a Saturday.
