Lincoln College Family Weekend Set for Oct. 20-22
Students encouraged to invite families for the weekend
Creekside Fall Festival Saturday

 

[October 19, 2017]  LINCOLN - Lincoln College will open its campus to the families of students Friday through Sunday, Oct. 20-22, with a variety of activities including classroom visits, volleyball, a picnic on the campus quad, the annual Fall Festival at the Campbell Creekside Outdoor Center for Environmental Education, a special Sunday brunch and even a magic show.

“We are welcoming parents and other relatives of our students to the campus for this special weekend of activities, so they can see their student’s second home firsthand,” said Dr. David Gerlach, Lincoln College President. “We’ve got a lot of great activities planned, but most importantly we want parents to meet instructors, see where their students are learning and living and meet the families of other students.”

The weekend will kick off on Friday, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. and running through 8 p.m. that evening. Families can come to the student center to register and pick up a schedule and meal and event tickets.

Parents and siblings aged 16 and over will be able to attend class with their students on Friday (students need to obtain permission from their professors one week in advance). Family members can also visit the Lincoln Heritage Museum from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a special $4 admission fee.

Sports fans can watch the women’s volleyball team compete at the Hampton Inn Classic in the Jack D. Nutt Arena with games at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Finish off the evening with “Cosmic Bingo,” a high-energy competition with black lights, music, dancing and prizes in the student center.

Families unable to arrive on Friday, can check in from 8-10 a.m. on Saturday at the student center. There will be a special breakfast at 9 a.m. with President David Gerlach in the student center, where families can ask questions and learn more about the future of Lincoln College.

The Hampton Inn Classic will continue on Saturday with games at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Also during the day, the annual Fall Festival will be taking place at Creekside Outdoor Environmental Education Center north of Lincoln. The Festival will begin at 10:30 a.m., with a special dedication ceremony for the sculpture “Nature’s Embrace” by local artist Moses Pinkerton. Visitors will have a variety of opportunities to explore Creekside and participate in activities. Creekside is the outdoor classroom for environmental and biological sciences at Lincoln College and is located approximately four miles due north of Lincoln.

Saturday evening will feature a high-energy fusion of magic, cons and sarcastic improve by Dan Martin on the main stage of the Johnston Center. Martin has appeared on CBS, NBC, WGN and VH1. The event is free, but due to limited seating, advance tickets will be required.

The weekend will close out Sunday, beginning with a family worship service led by Chi Alpha Ministries and featuring the Lincoln Gospel Choir, at 9:30 a.m. in the Johnston Center. That will be followed by a family weekend brunch in the student center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Blocks of rooms have been reserved at the Lincoln Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express.
