10/25/2017 NHL Note - Minnesota Wild Parise, Zach

LW Zach Parise underwent successful back surgery and is expected to be sidelined eight to 10 weeks, the Wild announced Tuesday.

Parise, has yet to play this season because of a back injury and underwent microdisectomy surgery. The procedure removes herniated disc material that presses on the nerves or the spinal cord.

NHL Note - Florida Panthers Niemi, Antti

G Antti Niemi was claimed off waivers by the Florida Panthers, the team announced Tuesday. Niemi was 0-3 with a .750 goals-against average and a .797 save percentage in three games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The 34-year-old was placed on waivers by Pittsburgh on Monday and is joining his fifth team. In 426 regular-season games with Pittsburgh, the Dallas Stars, San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks, Niemi is 227-128-51 with a 2.52 GAA, a .912 save percentage and 35 shutouts. He signed a one-year contract with Pittsburgh on July 1 but allowed 16 goals. Niemi's last start for Pittsburgh was Saturday's 7-1 loss at Tampa Bay.

NHL Note - Vancouver Canucks Stecher, Troy

D Troy Stecher of the Vancouver Canucks will miss four to six weeks with a knee injury, the team announced Tuesday. Stecher was injured in the final minutes of the second period of Sunday's game with the Detroit Red Wings when he was tangled up in a knee-on-knee collision with Tomas Tatar. The team originally said Stecher sustained a lower-body injury and coach Travis Green confirmed it was a knee injury Tuesday.

NHL Note - Washington Capitals Burakovsky, Andre

F Andre Burakovsky underwent thumb surgery and could be sidelined up to two months, the Washington Capitals announced Tuesday. Burakovsky went to see a specialist Tuesday and had a procedure to repair a fractured left thumb sustained in the third period of Saturday's game against the Florida Panthers. The Capitals said in a statement that Burakovsky is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. Burakovsky, 22, was off to a slow start this season but notched his first goal in a victory at Detroit on Friday night. He also had an assist in that game.

NHL Note - Washington Capitals Stephenson, Chandler

F Chandler Stephenson was recalled by the Washington Capitals from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League. Stephenson, 23, leads Hershey with five goals and is tied for the team lead with six points in six games this season. He appeared in four games with the Capitals last season.

NHL Note - Philadelphia Flyers Patrick, Nolan

C Nolan Patrick, the second player taken in the 2017 draft, left Philadelphia's Tuesday night game against the Ducks with an apparent head injury.

Patrick, 19, had to be helped to the tunnel after absorbing a hard but legal shoulder check into the boards from Ducks right winger Chris Wagner 2:35 into the second period. Patrick did not return for the remainder of the game. The Flyers did not provide immediate information regarding the specifics of the injury and Patrick's status.

"Just try to catch up to (Malkin) and get open. He found me and it was fortunate to get in," said Kessel, whose winner was his 299th career goal and his third of the season.

"He's been in a lot of pain," Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said. "I give him credit, he did what he could to avoid surgery and rehab and get back and play, but at the end of the day, I think (surgery) will help him get back and feel better quicker."

NHL Note - Vegas Golden Knights Dansk, Oscar

G Oscar Dansk made 29 saves in his first career start in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over Chicago. Dansk is the Golden Knights' third goaltender in only their eighth game with No. 1 Marc-Andre Fleury (concussion) and backup Malcolm Subban (lower-body) going on injured reserve in the past two weeks.
