LINCOLN
Members
of the Lincoln College Jazz Ensemble will perform Friday, Oct. 27,
at the Deep Roots Café, 127 S. Kickapoo, in downtown Lincoln. The
performance will begin at 5:30 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m. The
café’s autumn menu items include a sampling of Deep Root’s
sandwiches and sweets.
“This will be a fun jazz jam that will give the Lincoln community a
preview of what they can expect when the full Jazz Ensemble takes to
the main stage in December at the Johnston Center,” said Denise
LaGrassa, lead faculty member for the Jazz Studies program at
Lincoln College.

The performance is also intended as a learning experience for the
students, LaGrassa explained. “It’s a chance for our jazz performers to gain
critical experience by performing at a commercial venue before a live audience.
No matter how much instruction they receive in class and rehearsals, it can
never replicate an actual on-site performance,” she added.
The full Jazz Ensemble will present “Next Stop: Harlem” on the main stage of the
Johnston Center Dec. 7-8.
