The first annual Fitz-A-Palooza was held this last Saturday, October 21st at the Knights of Columbus.

The event was held in support of Joni Marten and in remembrance of Joe Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick lost his battle to colon cancer in April and Marten has had multiple surgeries and countless chemo sessions for the past four and a half years.

A fundraiser, various activities raised money and awareness for colon cancer – one of the top three cancer killers. Proceeds raised on Saturday go to the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) at www.lincolncolonwalk.com.

Fitz-A-Palooza launched at 10:30 a.m. with a 5K walk into downtown Lincoln and back. The walk was followed by a cookout, kids activities and a raffle with donated goods and decore provided by a number of local businesses and individuals.

The morning’s fun and activities were held out in the Knights of Columbus parking lot and then moved inside for an afternoon Euchre Tournament that began at noon.

One of the event coordinators, Sarah Marten said on Monday, “We had a great turnout on Saturday - approximately 150 supporters. Donations are still coming in but we are just shy of $6,000 as of this morning.
