[October 31, 2017]    The Lincoln College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams competed in the Region 24 meet hosted by Eastern Illinois University.

The Women’s team came away with the Region title and the men’s team came in a close second after being just edged out by runners from Danville Area Community College. Both squads saw four team members honored as All-Region runners.

On the women’s side, freshman Erin Layne (Chillicothe) was LC’s top runner to be named All-Region. Layne finished 2nd in the event with a time of 20:59. Other LC All-Region award winners included freshman Payton Marr (Clinton, 7th place), sophomore Markayla Rodgers (Chicago, 9th) and freshman Aurora Board (Lincoln, 10th). Freshman Tia Wilson (Lincoln) missed All-Region by one spot with her 11th place finish.

The Men’s team was led by freshman Terrell Robinson (Rock Island) who finished 3rd overall running the 8K course in a time of 28:07. Other top-ten finishers and All-Region award winners were freshmen Brian Gichuru (Belleville, 4th), Elijah Grewal (Pagosa Springs, CO, 8th) and Blake Quandt (Salem, 10th).

LC Coach Brian Herron said, “I was very pleased at how well we placed today. We knew the times were going to be slower because of some major wind so the focus was on place and position. Our athletes showed a lot of maturity and ran very strategic races. It was great to see the ladies bring home the team title, but I am just as proud of our men’s team. Both teams are young so the future looks very bright for our programs.”

The Cross Country teams will be in action next on November the 11th at the NJCAA National Meet hosted by Iowa Central.
