[September 01, 2017]  HARTSBURG - John H. Bergman, 85, of Hartsburg, passed away August 30, 2017, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2017, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hartsburg, and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. 

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the church.

Obituary

John H. Bergman, 85, of Hartsburg, passed away August 30, 2017, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2017, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Hartsburg. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2017, also at the church with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow in Hartsburg Union Cemetery with full military rites. Holland Barry & Bennett Funeral Home in Lincoln has been entrusted with his care.

John was born August 24, 1932, in Emden, the son of John Uffe Bergman and Rosine (Hoerbert) Bergman. He married Arline Bergold on April 17, 1955, in Emden. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. John was a farmer and a bus contractor. He was the previous owner of Hartem Bus Service. He was a member of Kogudus, the American Legion, a former Sunday School teacher, member of the Brotherhood, and Church Council member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hartsburg.

 

His greatest love was his family. He enjoyed spending time with them.

Surviving are his wife Arline Bergman of Hartsburg; children: John E. (Lori) Bergman of Quincy, Kevin R. (Karen) Bergman of White Heath, Aaron S. (Dena) Bergman of Emden, Duane N. (Eun) Bergman of Inverness, Diane J. Burnett of Albany, OR., and Kenton L. (Lyn) Bergman of Chillicothe; 14 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sister Kathryn June Bahn of Mount Pulaski, and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Bryan Bergman, and sister Eunice Faulkin.

Memorial donations may be made to Camp Griesheim Christian Retreat Center, the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Foundation, or to St. John's Lutheran Church, Hartsburg.
