Rookie quarterback Nathan Peterman had his best outing of the preseason in the Buffalo Bills' 27-17 victory over the Detroit Lions on Thursday night in Orchard Park, N.Y.

Earlier in the second period, Dobbs hooked up with receiver Justin Hunter on a 58-yard scoring play down the right sideline for a 10-7 lead.

Derek Anderson started at quarterback for the Panthers. The Steelers went with Landry Jones. Anderson was 2 of 10 for 10 yards, and backup Joe Webb completed 8 of 12 for 88 yards.

Nate Sudfeld, a second-year pro from Indiana, got the start at quarterback for the Redskins ahead of Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy and played the entire game. He was 23 of 33 passing for 228 yards.

Bucs backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick started the game and played most of the first half. But he was consistently pressured and finished 2 of 7 for only 6 yards.

Jets 16, Eagles 10

Austin Seferian-Jenkins, the likely No. 1 tight end for New York, caught a touchdown pass, and Ross Martin may have locked up kicker duties by converting both his field goal attempts in the Jets' win in East Rutherford, N.J.

Seferian-Jenkins, who will miss the first two games of the regular season while serving a suspension stemming from a DUI arrest last September, finished with two catches for a team-high 32 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown pass from Christian Hackenberg in the second quarter.

The game was stopped early for safety Jarrod Harper, who was injured on a punt coverage play and was carried off the field on a stretcher. He was evaluated for a concussion.

Falcon quarterback Matt Simms completed 11 of 15 passes for 195 yards.

Giants 40, Patriots 38

Brissett led a second-half comeback that saw the Patriots take a 38-37 lead on a 55-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski with 44 seconds to play.

However, Giants rookie backup David Webb completed five of his six ensuing pass attempts to move the visitors from their own 25 to the Patriots' 30 to give Rosas, looking to win the kicking job over veteran Mike Nugent, the chance for the game-winner.

Brissett completed 28 of 39 passes for 340 yards and four touchdowns.
