Obituary

Caleb Coogan, 12, of Mount Pulaski died in an off-road vehicle accident on September 6, 2017. He precedes his grandparents, Jim-Boy and Judy Coogan of Mount Pulaski, his parents JC and Joyce Coogan and sister Claire in death.

Caleb was a well-rounded young man, an inveterate tinkerer specializing in farm tractors big and small. He treated animals as equals, his dog Odie enjoying parts of the same meal Caleb would be having. He possessed the work ethic and most of the skills of an adult, having mastered operation of construction equipment by the time he could reach the pedals, and was not afraid of manual labor either, often for no more payment than lunch. He could count as his friends some of the top “old-school” thinkers of the area and always ready to help out, used their mentoring to great advantage. He was blind to age in his choice of friends, to the point of commenting once how he might like to have a slumber party, but feared some of his guests would not be able to get back up off the floor.

Caleb led with kindness and equality in all his interactions and in this displayed maturity far beyond his years. He leaves behind an unfillable void in his passing.

Services for Caleb will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday September 12, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church in Mount Pulaski, with Rev. Jonathan Buescher officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Monday September 11, 2017 at the Family Life Center in Mount Pulaski. Burial at Steenbergen Cemetery will follow the service.

Memorials may be made in Caleb Coogan’s name for a headstone.
