[September 15, 2017]  (The Sports Xchange) - Major League Baseball suspended Houston Astros pitcher Mike Fiers for five games and fined him an undisclosed amount for throwing a fastball over the head of Los Angeles Angels batter Luis Valbuena on Wednesday.

The penalty was announced Thursday, and Fiers is not appealing, so the penalty started in Thursday night's game between the Astros and Angels.

In Wednesday's game, Fiers threw a pitch about four feet over Valbuena's head, and the ball sailed to the backstop. It was Valbuena's first at-bat after hitting his 20th home run, which he celebrated with a big bat flip.
