‘Free Hugs Guy’ to visit Lincoln College campus
Ken E. Nwadike, Jr., Will be Excellence in Leadership Speaker September 19th

 

[September 15, 2017]  LINCOLN - The Lincoln College Student Government Association and Student Activities Board will be hosting peace activist, inspirational speaker, and video journalist, Ken E. Nwadike Jr. on Tuesday, September 19, as part of the Lincoln College Excellence in Leadership speaker series.

Popularly known as the Free Hugs Guy, Nwadike is the founder of the Free Hugs Project, which he launched in 2014 to spread love in response to the bombing of the Boston Marathon. The project gained popularity as Nwadike made major news headlines for his peacekeeping efforts and de-escalation of violence during protests, riots, and political rallies. Nwadike was featured in Google’s 2016 Year in Search video as a highlight among some of the year’s most defining moments and he has made many appearances on news programs, including CNN, USA Today, Good Morning Britain, and BBC News.

Nwadike’s talks often detail his former homelessness and his own efforts to overcome insecurities by getting involved in extracurricular activities in school. He also has discussed the support he received from coaches, teammates, and friends while playing sports and participating in student government activities.

Nwadike will spend much of the day getting to know the campus and interacting with various student groups. He will end with a keynote that will create unity and build community, reminding students and the Lincoln community we are all human beings in need of love.

His keynote lecture will be at 7:00 p.m. on September 19 in the Jack D. Nutt Arena located in the Lincoln Center. This event is open to the public.
