[September 19, 2017]  Ulysses S. Grant was once ranked among the greatest Americans but is often overlooked and misunderstood today. Historian Ronald C. White will try to correct that by providing a “fresh vision” of Grant’s leadership when he speaks at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum on Sept. 21.

White is the author of the bestselling Grant biography “American Ulysses: A Life of Ulysses S. Grant.” The New York Times said it showed “how fortunate the nation was” to have Grant as a leader. The Chicago Tribune called it “illuminating, inspiring and deeply moving.”

White will sign copies of “American Ulysses” at 6 p.m. and then speak in the museum’s Union Theater at 6:30.

Tickets are $8 for the general public and $5 for members of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation. Until Sept. 8, a package with a ticket and a copy of “American Ulysses” is available for $28 ($25 for foundation members).

Get tickets by visiting www.President Lincoln.illinois.gov  and clicking “special event reservations.”

“I have long admired Ulysses Grant, both as a general and as a president. Ron White’s excellent biography helps return this leader to his rightful position in American history,” said Alan Lowe, executive director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. “Two men with Illinois roots, Lincoln and Grant, saved the union, and we are glad that an eminent historian who has written so eloquently about both will join us in Springfield.”

White is the author of three bestselling books on Abraham Lincoln, including most recently “A. Lincoln: A Biography.” White earned his Ph.D. at Princeton and has lectured on Lincoln hundreds of times. He is a fellow at California’s Huntington Library and a senior fellow of the Trinity Forum of Washington, D.C.
