[September 21, 2017]    The Lincoln College Men’s Soccer team dropped a Region 24 match 2-0 to nationally ranked Lewis and Clark College.

Lewis and Clark got on the board after converting a penalty kick in the first half. The Lynx went into half time down 1-0 despite having the majority of possessions, leading in shots 8-3, and having 6 corner kicks.

The second half saw the Lynx put a tremendous amount of pressure on the Trailblazer’s defense as they attacked the whole 45 minutes. However, Lincoln was unable to turn the pressure into points. Lincoln would allow the only goal of the second half and be forced to go home with the loss.

“We had 10 shots on goal 8 corner kicks and they had 1 shot and scored with 2 mins in the match. It’s probably the best game we have played in a long time that we didn’t win!” said Lincoln Coach Ben Massena. “The guys left everything on the field and we did everything right besides score goals. It’s something that has been our issue all season and until we start getting more clinical in the final 1/3 we won’t be successful.”

The Lynx move to 4-3 and 1-1 in region play. Lincoln will travel to East Peoria to play Illinois Central College on Wednesday to play their next Region match. Earlier this season LC defeated ICC 2-1 in OT but it only counted for as a Conference match and not for the Region. This game will be the one that will have an impact on post-season seeding.
