Revolution roll to easy win over short-handed Impact

[April 07, 2018]  Diego Fagundez and Wilfried Zahibo each had a goal and an assist for New England in a 4-0 win against shorthanded Montreal on Friday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.

The Revolution (3-1-1) ran its unbeaten streak to four by taking advantage of a red card to Montreal midfielder Saphir Taider in the 14th minute of a scoreless match.

They got goals by Teal Bunbury in the 20th minute, Andrew Farrell in the sixth minute of stoppage of the opening half, Fagundez in the 71st and Zahibo nine minutes later. Kelyn Row assisted on the last two scores.

Montreal (2-3-0) could have faced a greater first-half deficit if not for a penalty save by Evan Bush on Fagundez in the 36th minute after Victor Cabrera fouled Cristian Penilla.

As it was, the Impact had a forgettable half beginning when Taider was sent off for his tackle into the right shin of Luis Caicedo.

Bunbury then scored his second of the season from an over-the-top pass from Zahibo.

Farrell made it 2-0 when Fagundez set him up for a strike from 15 yards. Farrell, a defender who was the first overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, scored his first MLS goal in his 164th game.

Fagundez made it 3-0 via a chip pass to the 6-yard box by Rowe for third goal before Zahibo got his first score.

Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner made two saves.

Montreal's star midfielder Ignacio Piatti did not play because of an injury. He has a goal and three assists this season.

New England is 9-0-2 in its past 11 home games. The Revolution has also won five straight against the Impact, outscoring them 14-3.

On April 14, New England stays home to play FC Dallas while the Impact plays at the New York Red Bulls.
