Memorial Medical Center to Hold Free Esophageal Cancer Seminar

[April 09, 2018]   SPRINGFIELD - Memorial Medical Center will hold a free conference on esophageal cancer at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation.

The program, “Hope for the Unspoken Cancer: An Esophageal Cancer Awareness Event,” will take place in the H.D. Smith Tiered Classroom on the MCLI's second floor.

Two physicians and an esophageal cancer survivor will speak.

Dr. Rajan Kochar, a Springfield Clinic gastroenterologist, will discuss the signs and symptoms of esophageal cancer and Barrett's esophagus, invasive vs. noninvasive treatment options and lifestyle factors in the development of esophageal disease.

Dr. Traves Crabtree, an SIU Medicine cardiothoracic surgeon, will discuss surgical interventions and treatments for esophageal cancer as well as care before and after surgery.

Snacks and light refreshments will be served.

The Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation is at 228 W. Miller St., at the southeast corner of Rutledge and Miller streets. Free parking is available on the first and third levels of the parking garage south of the MCLI at Rutledge and Carpenter streets.
