Lincoln Railers softball comes up short in 3-2 loss to Springfield

It was a pitchers duel in a low scoring affair Thursday afternoon as
the Lincoln Railers took on the Springfield Senators at UIS. Both
teams were strong on the mound, but Springfield was just a little
bit stronger at the plate. The Senators won 3-2 but a late-inning
comeback sparked the Railers.
Kerstin Osborne started the game for Lincoln and she recorded 18
outs. Osborne tossed six innings and allowed three runs on three
hits. She also struck out three batters.
Jacey Cooper led Lincoln at the plate by going 2-for-4 with two
RBIs.
Lincoln Coach Darrin Worth said following the tough loss, "It was a
really good game. The wind was blowing in really hard. We were down
3-0 going into the 7th inning when Emily Paulus came up to bat and
lined out to second base, then Mya Kirgan got up and walked.
Bayleigh Gillum hit a grounder back to the pitcher and the pitcher
threw to second base and the shortstop pulled her foot from second.
So now we have runners on first and second. Ella Burton came up and
struck out. Macailey Metelko came up to bat and walked to load the
bases with two outs. Jacey Cooper, our lead-off hitter was due up
next. Cooper hit a ball down the right field line that scored two
runs and then Metelko was sent home and got thrown out on a
bang-bang play to end the game 3 to 2."
A tough loss for the young Lincoln softball team, which falls to 2-4
on the season.
