The April meeting of the Atlanta Ag 4-H Club just happened to fall on National Tartan Day, a day to celebrate Scottish heritage and pride. It was a very fitting date for a visit from Dave and Phyllis Hart who are members of the Clan Donald, the oldest Scottish Clan in the world.

Phyllis showed off her traditional wardrobe that consisted of a Flora McDonald dress with Tartan sash and traditional headpiece. Dave arrived dressed in a traditional Tartan kilt.

Dave also discussed the different swords that were carried in battle and/or worn in special ceremonies.

The couple shared their knowledge of the Scottish/Tartan culture with club members and encouraged questions from the group.

Being a part of 4-H is far more than understanding agriculture or even science and technology. It is also learning about different cultures and lifestyles, and coming to appreciate that we are a very diverse world with many ancestry lines that make each one of us unique but with a commonality that we are a part of all mankind.
