LINCOLN

Vocal Performance students at Lincoln College are having a busy April.

The Lincoln College Choirs' spring concert, Around the World in 80 Minutes, will be Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m. on the Johnston Center main stage.

The following week, the Lincoln College Chorale has been invited to participate in the Liturgical Arts Festival in Springfield on Friday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. Earlier this month, 10 Lincoln College vocalists traveled to New York to perform with renowned conductor and composer Eric Whitacre.

And, to close out the month, there will be a vocal studio recital Monday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m.

For the spring concert, the Lincoln College Chorale, Chamber Choir, and TrebLynx, along with Four Score and various soloists, will present music from around the world. The concert will feature American pop music, celebratory African music, classical Russian music, and more, with no fewer than eight different languages on the program.

The concert will also feature the vocalists who have just returned from New York City. They will present some of the Eric Whitacre selections that they performed at the Lincoln Center.

New to this concert will be the Composers' Corner, which will feature students performing their own songs. This is inspired by the new vocal degree and the increased composing that is happening in the degree program. The last Lincoln College vocal music concert featured an original composition, and at least two or three original student compositions will now become a regular feature of Lincoln College vocal music concerts.

For the concert at the Johnston Center, general admission is $5 and students and seniors can attend for $1.

Vocal music fans can also hear the Lincoln College Chorale the following Friday at the Liturgical Arts Festival. The Chorale will join with another local choir to perform with the Sangamon Valley Civic Orchestra. In addition, the Chorale will also have its own feature, where it will perform Rachmaninoff's Bogoroditse Devo from his All-Night Vigil. The performance will take place at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2645 Old Jacksonville Road in Springfield and is free to attend.
