[August 07, 2018]  On Friday, the Logan County Fair hosted its annual Open Swine Show. This year the winners of both the gilt and barrow competitions had strong Logan County roots.

In the Gilts, Brandon Olson won the Grand Champion trophy, while Reagan Tibbs took Reserve.

In the Barrow Class, Claire Bobell won the Grand Champion Trophy, while that Karen Entwistle took Reserve.

Tibbs had been the Champion winner in Gilts in the 4-H show on Wednesday and Bobell had the Grand Champion Barrow in the 4-H Show.

Some of the best fun at the Friday show didn’t really involve the grand champions, but rather offered us a glimpse of the future of livestock shows in Logan County.

In the Open Shows age limits are much broader than in 4-H, so in the ring on Saturday there were a number of tiny tots above four years old, but under six that don’t yet qualify for 4-H showing off their skills with their pigs. In most cases a parent was close at hand, though one young lady got attention because she was flying solo, with no help from a parent.
