LINCOLN

At 6 p.m. this evening Bruce and Cindy Stacy will turn out the lights and lock the doors at Stacy’s Family Pharmacy. This effectively brings to end one chapter of their lives and starts another simply titled ‘Retirement.’

After 40 years as a pharmacist and 30 years as a pharmacy owner in Lincoln, Bruce said recently that it has come time for him and Cindy to exit their careers and start enjoying retirement.

“I have always said that I was not going to work past 70, and that is going to happen in just a few months, so it’s time.” Bruce said.

He added that this has been in the works for a while, and that at first he was apprehensive. He wondered if he really wanted to make this change, but as time went on, he started looking forward to it, and now he is anxious to start this new chapter in his life with Cindy.

Bruce and Cindy moved to Lincoln almost 40 years ago. Hailing from the Joliet area, the two went to school together, then got married. Bruce headed off to college to get his pharmaceutical degree, then the couple came to Lincoln.

Thirty years ago, they purchased their pharmacy, then under the Medicap franchise. Bruce explained that the first location was just a couple blocks to the east of the current business in the building that is now Liberty Tax and used to be the Discount Tobacco store.

Stacy said that after 20 years, he decided not to continue his franchise relationship with Medicap and from that point forward, Stacy’s Family Pharmacy was independently owned and operated.

To the current customers at Stacy’s this will be a change of course, but Stacy said that he has chosen to work with CVS Pharmacy for the easy transition of all prescriptions to that store. Stacy said he chose to work with CVS because they are well established and have a good reputation in the community. He is confident that his customers will be taken care of very well at CVS.

He added that Stacy customers will also see some familiar faces at CVS, as some of his seven staff have already secured positions with that drug store.

CVS has also purchased the Stacy’s store inventory, and on Thursday the Stacy’s will be working with CVS staff to get all the inventory moved out.

So, what will retirement look like for the Stacy’s? Bruce said that high on the retirement to-do list is travel. He explained that the couple has children and grandchildren living in St. Louis and also in Georgia, so plans to travel and spend time with kids and grandkids will be a top priority.

For the Stacy’s the past 30 years have been good, and they are grateful to all those who supported them and their business. Bruce concluded saying, “We really want to thank all the people who have supported us over the years. We have had great staff with us, and most of all, we have had great customers.”

Congratulations to the Stacy’s on their retirement, and best wishes for the future.
