LINCOLN
Victoria Malone, a sophomore at Lincoln College, has been selected
as a 2018 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar and will receive a
$1,000 scholarship.
The Leaders of Promise Scholarship, sponsored by the Coca-Cola
Scholars Foundation, recognizes outstanding members of the Phi Theta
Kappa honor society. Malone, a 2017 graduate of Rockford East High
School, is the daughter of Larnell and Tracie Malone III of
Rockford.
This year’s recipients were selected by a panel of independent
judges from more than 1,200 applicants. Only 200 students from
across the country are chosen for the honor. Coca-Cola Leaders of
Promise Scholars are selected based on outstanding academic
achievement and demonstrated leadership potential.
She is a member of the Lynx varsity women’s basketball squad, a
residence life assistant and the Women’s Athletics Senator in
student government at Lincoln College. Malone also earned a perfect
4.0 average during the 2017-18 school year and was inducted into Phi
Theta Kappa in March.

The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise scholarship program was launched in 2001 to
provide new Phi Theta Kappa members with financial resources to help defray
educational expenses while enrolled in an associate degree program and to
develop leadership potential through participation in Phi Theta Kappa programs.
Malone, who is a point guard on the basketball team, hopes to someday teach
either mathematics or economics at the college level.
