The Lincoln College Men’s Basketball team suffered its second overtime loss of the season on Saturday. The Lynx fell to the visiting Indiana University Northwest Red Hawks 93-92. This was the team’s fourth one-point loss of the season and dropped LC’s overall record to 6-6.

IU Northwest took command in the first half and led by as many as 15 points. Lincoln was able to cut the IUN advantage to just six at halftime (46-40).

In the second half, Lincoln began to turn the momentum in their favor. With just over ten minutes remaining in the game, LC trailed by ten (68-58), but an IUN turnover led to a bucket in the paint by Lincoln guard Trayvon Tyler (Rockford) which was quickly followed by a Tyler three-pointer to cut the Red Hawk lead to five. From there LC continued to chip away at their deficit and trailed by just three points with 1:03 to play. On their next possession, Lincoln guard Lejavius Johnson (Glenwood) hit a three-pointer with 47 seconds left on the clock to tie the score at 82-82. Neither team was able to score in the time remaining which forced overtime.

In the extra period, the two teams traded leads throughout, with LC going up 92-90 with just 19 seconds remaining. However, with nine seconds on the clock, IU Northwest’s Lashawn Lewis hit a jumper in the paint and was fouled. Lewis’s free-throw attempt was good and Lincoln was unable to score in the time remaining to give IU Northwest the 93-92 win.

Lejavius Johnson led all LC players with 29 points in the game. Trayvon Tyler had 20 points in the contest and senior forward Julian Powell (Baytown, TX) recorded another double-double by scoring 14 points and grabbing a team-high 13 rebounds.

Lincoln will look to rebound Monday evening as they travel to Marshall Missouri for an away game at Missouri Valley College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
