The April 2, 2019, Consolidated Election seems far in the future; but, anyone interested in appearing on the ballot should begin preparing now!

The Consolidated Election will include school boards, park districts, public library districts, and municipalities. The secretaries and clerks for these entities will serve as the election officials and questions regarding open seats and qualifications should be directed to them.

Secretaries and clerks for each taxing district are encouraged to find and review the 2019 Local Election Officials Handbook. It is available on the County Clerk’s website on the “Election Information” page.

Please note, every candidate must file an Economic Interest Statement with the County Clerk on or before December 17, 2018. The County Clerk’s office will provide a copy of the Economic Interest Statement to the candidate to be filed with the Statement of Candidacy and Petition. These documents should be filed with the secretary or clerk of the taxing body.

Below are pertinent dates for each taxing district:

School Boards:

Candidate packets will be available online (www.logancountyil.gov) and in the County Clerk’s office on September 18, 2018. Candidates may begin collecting the necessary 50 signatures on that date. The filing forms must be submitted to the County Clerk’s office between December 10, 2018 and December 17, 2018.

Park Districts:

Candidate packets will be available online (www.logancountyil.gov) on September 18, 2018. Candidates may begin collecting the 25 necessary signatures on that date. The filing forms should be submitted to the appropriate park district secretary between December 10, 2018 and December 17, 2018. The park district secretary must submit a Certification of Ballot to the County Clerk between December 26, 2018 and January 24, 2019.

Public Library Districts:

Candidate packets will be available online (www.logancountyil.gov) on September 18, 2018. Candidates may begin collecting the 50 necessary signatures on that date. The filing forms should be submitted to the appropriate library district secretary between December 10, 2018 and December 17, 2018. The library district secretary must submit a Certification of Ballot to the County Clerk between December 26, 2018 and January 24, 2019.

Municipalities – Candidates run as Independents or Nonpartisan

Candidate packets will be available online (www.logancountyil.gov) on September 18, 2018. Candidates may begin collecting the 50 necessary signatures on that date. The filing forms should be submitted to the appropriate city or village clerk between December 10, 2018 and December 17, 2018. The city or village clerk must submit a Certification of Ballot to the County Clerk between December 26, 2018 and January 24, 2019.

Municipalities – Candidates run as a member of an Established Party

The city or village must hold a caucus on December 3, 2018. Notice of this caucus must be posted on or before November 23, 2018. At the caucus, nominated candidates should submit their Statement of Candidacy to the city or village clerk. The city or village clerk must submit a Certificate of Nomination by Caucus to the County Clerk between December 10, 2018 and December 17, 2018.
