The Lincoln Railers returned to Roy S. Anderson Friday night to play
their last home game before Christmas break. Both the Railers JV and
Varsity Squads gave the fans just what they wanted ~ a win to
improve their season record to a perfect 7-0. The Railers remain
atop the Apollo Conference with a 4-0 record.
To kick the evening off, the Railers JV handed Mount Zion a 41-15
loss. Landon Hullinger and Seth Tungate each scored 10 points to
lead Lincoln.
JV's Landon Hullinger
saw some Varsity minutes versus Mount Zion. Hullinger has been a
driving force behind the Railers JV team this season.
The Railers Varsity won their contest handily by a score of 60-32.
Will Ewald held the hot-hand for Lincoln and he poured in 22 points.
Kaden Froebe tossed in 13 points and Jermaine Hamlin hit
double-figures with 10 points.
Will Ewald began the game by rattling off the first five points for
Lincoln.
Dylan Singleton's bucket gave Lincoln an early 7-0 lead but the
Braves battled back to tie the game 9-9.
Lincoln reclaimed the lead on a steal by Kaden Froebe which led to a
quick outlet pass to Singleton, who then fired it into Ewald for the
layup. Lincoln was up 12-11 and that would be the first quarter
score.
The early minutes of the second quarter saw Mount Zion in the lead
again but following Jermaine Hamlin's free throws at the 6:13 mark,
the Railers were off and running and it was the beginning of a
massacre.
Froebe was in the middle of things, wreaking havoc. Back-to-back
steals and layups by the junior put Lincoln up 18-13.
Then it was Ewald catching fire at the end of the quarter. Lincoln's
no. 23 sunk back-to-back threes to give the Railers a 29-20 lead at
the half.
The Railers
Cheerleaders always do an amazing job pumping up the crowd.
Lincoln dominated the third quarter with a 16-0 run, highlighted by
the offensive display of, well all the starters.
Singleton's layup and "and one" was the start of things.

Whiteman re-entered the game and hit a three, after sitting a spell
with two fouls in the first half.
Hamlin continued shooting perfect from the charity stripe, hitting
2-for-2.
Froebe continued to penetrate the lane and get a couple points off
the glass and draw a foul.
Meanwhile Ewald was nonstop, hitting a layup and a three-point shot.
With 2:35 showing on the third quarter clock Lincoln was dominating
the Braves 45-20. By the end of the third quarter it was Lincoln
crushing the Braves 55-26.
The fourth quarter moved quickly, in part due to the running clock
at the end. Lincoln's scoring was taken care of by Whiteman and
Dreyden Pozsgai.
No disrespect to the players on Neil Alexander Court, but the real
entertainment in the fourth quarter was the
spreading-Christmas-cheer Railer Nation. Railer Nation was decked
out in festive wear and towards the end of the game they even broke
out in "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." They were a lively bunch all
night and really brought their "A game" to this last home game of
2018. Looking forward to what the fans bring in 2019.
Lincoln will play two big conference games next week on the road.
Tuesday the Railers travel to Mahomet-Seymour. Friday night Lincoln
makes the trek to Charleston.
