On the north side of Lincoln, a treasure of nature lies within the boundaries of Kickapoo Creek Park. The 160-acre park, formed in 1969, invites visitors to enjoy the native wilderness as it could have been in the early days of our community. Among the many delights are random and frequent glimpses of wildlife such as the white-tailed deer seen here.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles represented by Monty Lolling presented a check to Joe Schaler to pay for a new sign that will be designed, built and installed this spring at the 'All Veterans Park' in Lincoln. The renovation of the park is being done through donations with labor provided by veterans.

The Eagles have always been great supporters of veterans projects. They join several other organizations and individuals who have donated to the 'All Veterans Park Fund' over the past few months.

Schaler hopes enough donations are raised to begin the next phase in early spring with the installation of the sign, lighting, additional landscaping and leveling of the memorial bricks.

Over the weekend, Miss Logan County Fair Queen Meg Meeker (far right) participated in the 2018 Illinois State Fair Queen competition. Queen Meeker was named as the third runner-up of approximately 70 contestants in the competition.

According to Bethany Rademaker, who heads up the local queen competition committee, the last time a Logan County Queen finished high on the list was in when 1997 Logan County Queen Natalie Jeckel won the title of 1998 Miss Illinois State Fair.

Rademaker commented on Queen Meeker saying, "Meg competed with her whole heart, and Logan County should be extremely proud of the work and dedication Queen Meg put in."
