Lincoln College Vocal Music Students Plan New York-Bound Revue
Students Raising Fund for Performance Trip to New York

 

[February 08, 2018]  LINCOLN - Lincoln College vocal music students are hosting a fundraising revue Saturday, Feb. 10, as they raise money for a performance trip to New York in April.

Fundraising Revue: New York-Bound will feature performances from the students’ personal repertoire. It will be in the Hostick Theatre at the Johnston Center for Performing Arts, beginning at 7:30pm Saturday evening.

“All proceeds from the performance will go towards the cost of the trip,” explained Laurie Lewis-Fritz, Lead Faculty for Vocal Performance at Lincoln College. “It will be a fun evening of music and celebrating this opportunity, as well as a great way to experience the quality and creativity of our vocal music students.”

Admission is $15 per person and reservations can be made by calling the Johnston Center at [phone].

The Lincoln College vocal music students will be traveling to New York to perform under the direction of Grammy-winning composer and conductor Eric Whitacre in April. The performance is part of the Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) Concert series, which has been described by the BBC Music as the “Number One North American Live Event Choice” for classical music.

Whitacre has won awards from the Barlow international composition competition, American Choral Directors Association, American Composers Forum and in 2001 became the recipient of The Raymond W. Brock Commission given by the American Choral Directors Association. His musical Paradise Lost: Shadows and Wings earned him a Richard Rodgers Award and received 10 nominations at the 2007 Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Awards. The album Cloudburst and Other Choral Works received a Grammy nomination in 2007 for Best Choral Performance. Later, his album Light & Gold won a Grammy for Best Choral Performance in 2012.

In 2016, Whitacre was appointed Artist in Residence with the Los Angeles Master Chorale.
