Spring roundup: Marisnick leads Astros, Tebow hitless for Mets

[February 28, 2018]  Jake Marisnick delivered a line-drive, two-run double to cap a second-inning outburst as the defending World Series champion Houston Astros posted an 8-2 victory over the New York Mets on Tuesday at Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Max Stassi contributed a two-run single during the five-run inning for Houston. Tyler White reached base three times on a double and two walks.

Tim Tebow made his spring debut and struck out and flied out in two hitless at-bats for the Mets, who received three hits from Patrick Biondi.

Padres 11, Mariners (ss) 6

Austin Hedges hit a three-run homer and Eric Hosmer had a run-scoring single during his San Diego debut to help the Padres beat Seattle in Peoria, Ariz. Jean Segura homered and had three RBIs for the Mariners.

Giants 14, Diamondbacks 12

Kyle Jensen belted a grand slam with one out in the bottom of the ninth to cap a six-run rally and give San Francisco the dramatic victory over Arizona at Scottsdale, Ariz. Kevin Cron, Kristopher Negron and Christian Walker each had two RBIs for the Diamondbacks.

Royals 14, Mariners (ss) 9

Jorge Soler homered twice and had four RBIs, and Salvador Perez went 3-for-3 with a homer as Kansas City recovered from a six-run deficit to defeat Seattle at Peoria, Ariz. Andrew Romine and Gordon Beckham homered for the Mariners.

Yankees 9, Blue Jays 8

Mark Payton delivered a three-run double during a five-run eighth inning as New York outlasted Toronto at Dunedin, Fla. Russell Martin, Reese McGuire and Jason Leblebijian all homered for the Blue Jays.

Tigers 11, Phillies 6

Derek Norris slugged a three-run homer among his three hits to help Detroit knock off Philadelphia at Clearwater, Fla. Rhys Hoskins and Roman Quinn homered for the Phillies.

Indians 16, Athletics 8

Richie Shaffer slugged a pinch-hit grand slam, and Jason Kipnis went 3-for-3 with two homers and four RBIs as Cleveland defeated Oakland at Goodyear, Ariz. Sheldon Neuse hit a three-run shot for the Athletics.

Cubs 6, White Sox 5

Ian Happ homered and Opening Day starter Jon Lester gave up one run in 1 2/3 innings in his spring debut as the Chicago Cubs defeated their city rival at Mesa, Ariz. Nicky Delmonico went 3-for-3 for the White Sox.

Yairo Munoz recorded three of St. Louis' six hits in the victory over Boston at Fort Myers, Fla. Brock Holt had two of the Red Sox's five singles.

Orioles 2, Rays 1

Garabez Rosa homered in the sixth inning and Ruben Tejada delivered the tiebreaking single in the seventh as Baltimore edged Tampa Bay at Port Charlotte, Fla. Wilson Ramos had two of the Rays' six hits.

Angels 5, Rockies 2

David Fletcher had a two-run single and Rene Rivera homered to help Los Angeles down Colorado at Scottsdale, Ariz. Mike Tauchman homered for the Rockies.

Brewers 6, Reds 3

Nick Franklin hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the sixth inning as Milwaukee knocked off Cincinnati at Phoenix, Ariz. Adam Duvall slammed a two-run blast for the Reds.

Pirates 3, Braves 3

Charlie Culberson stroked a two-run double and Johan Camargo homered to help Atlanta tie Pittsburgh in nine innings at Kissimmee, Fla. Eric Wood had a two-run double and Jose Osuna delivered a RBI double for the Pirates.

Marlins 2, Nationals 2

Miguel Montero drove in both Washington runs in a nine-inning tie against Miami at West Palm Beach, Fla. The Marlins scored two in the eighth inning on J.B. Shuck's infield single and a throwing error by Nationals second baseman Adrian Sanchez.

Rangers 4, Dodgers 4

Omar Estevez slugged a two-run homer to help Los Angeles recover from a four-run deficit and tie Texas in a nine-inning game at Glendale, Ariz. Joey Gallo and Rougned Odor each had run-scoring doubles for the Rangers.

Red Sox (ss) 3, Twins 2

Sam Travis hit a tiebreaking double in the ninth inning to lead Boston past Minnesota at Fort Myers, Fla. Byron Buxton collected a single and a double for the Twins.
