[January 09, 2018]    The Chicago Blackhawks placed veteran defenseman Cody Franson on waivers Monday, according to multiple reports.

Franson, 30, played in 23 games this season, recording one goal and seven points. In his ninth NHL season, he signed a one-year, $1 million contract with Chicago in October.

Franson did not play in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. He skated in the four previous games after missing seven contests with an upper-body injury.

A third-round pick by the Nashville Predators in the 2005 draft, Franson owns 212 points (43 goals, 169 assists) in 550 career NHL games since entering the league in 2009.

Meanwhile, the Blackhawks recalled forward Tomas Jurco on Monday from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. In a corresponding move, forward John Hayden was assigned to Rockford.
