[January 10, 2018]    The Kansas City Chiefs promoted running backs coach Eric Bieniemy to offensive coordinator on Tuesday.

He replaces Mike Nagy, who was introduced earlier in the day as the new head coach of the Chicago Bears.

"I've known Eric a long time, both as a player and a coach," Kansas City head coach Andy Reid said in a statement. "He's done a phenomenal job with our running backs and has been involved in every aspect of our offense over the last five years. He's a great teacher and has earned this opportunity. I know he will do a good job."

Bieniemy, 48, previously was the Minnesota Vikings' running backs coach from 2006-10.

It is uncertain whether Bieniemy will call plays next season. After the Chiefs slumped in midseason, Reid relinquished those responsibilities to Nagy for the final five regular-season games and Saturday's AFC wild-card loss to the Tennessee Titans.

Bieniemy called plays from 2011-12 at the University of Colorado, where he was a star running back before a nine-year playing career in the NFL.
