Sauers, Kelly share Champions lead in Hawaii

[January 19, 2018]    Gene Sauers and Jerry Kelly each posted a stretch of three consecutive birdies Thursday, and they wound up tied for the lead after the first round of the PGA Tour Champions' Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai.

Kelly and Sauers both wound up at 8-under-par 64 on the Hualalai Resort Golf Club in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. Sauers completed a bogey-free round while Kelly had nine birdies and one bogey.

Rocco Mediate and Scotland's Colin Montgomerie share second place at 65, while Fred Couples, Kirk Triplett and Kevin Sutherland are tied for fifth at 66.

Germany's Bernhard Langer, the Hualalei winner in 2009, 2014 and 2017, is tied for 20th place following a 69.
