LC Track Off to Fast Start

The Lincoln College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams competed for the first time this year on Saturday at the Snow Bird Open hosted by Illinois College. Over 20 teams were represented. The women’s team finished 9th overall and the men’s team came in a strong 7th place.

There were several outstanding performances turned in by Lynx athletes at this event. Some highlights from the women’s side of the competition include a 7th place finish in the 60 meter dash and 3rd in the long jump for freshman Shanika Smith (Bourbonnais) and sophomore Qutaya Burse (Hannibal, MO) finishing 4th in the 60 meter hurdles and 2nd in the long jump. In addition, the distance medley relay team of Erin Layne, Markayla Rodgers, Payton Marr and April Goetz took 8th place in the event. Sophomore Carissa Tinsley (Colfax) was 2nd in the shot with fellow sophomore Bralon Mack (Colp) close behind her in 4th.

On the men’s side, sophomore Kane Jackson (Geneseo) was 3rd in the 60 meter dash and 4th in the long jump. Josh Turner, a freshman from Waukegan, IL, finished 7th in the 60 meter dash. Sophomore Tylin Hall (East Moline) placed 6th in the 60 meter hurdles. The 4x400 team of Christian Raymond, Ed Lopez, Abdoulaye Diawara and Rodman Telltul took 6th in their event, while the Distance Medley relay of Elijah Grewal, Abdoulaye Diawara, Ed Lopez and Terrell Robinson came in 8th.

Two LC athletes came away as champions in their respective events. Springfield Southeast grad Sabree Bakari was 1st in the high jump and freshman Cameron Harris (Belleville) also picked up a 1st place finish in the triple jump.

The team will be in action again this weekend at the Titian Invite hosted by Illinois Wesleyan.
