[January 26, 2018]  Alex Ovechkin reached the 500-assist career milestone and also scored his 30th goal of the season, leading the Washington Capitals to a 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.

Ovechkin is one of only four active players with 500 assists and 500 goals, joining Jaromir Jagr, Marian Hossa and Patrick Marleau.

The Capitals, who also got goals from Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson and Brett Connolly, snapped a three-game losing streak. Carlson's second-period goal was the game-winner.

Braden Holtby made 32 saves to earn the win, and Evgeny Kuznetsov, who left the game due to an unspecified injury, added two assists for Washington. Florida's Denis Malgin had the first two-goal game of his career.

Predators 3, Devils 0

P.K. Subban scored for the third straight game and Pekka Rinne made 27 saves for his fourth shutout as Nashville blanked New Jersey in Newark, N.J.

Subban's 12th goal of the season came at 9:48 of the second period, shortly after a faceoff win by Ryan Johansen. The puck came to Mattias Ekholm, who teed up Subban at the left point for a slapper that squirted through the pads of rookie goalie Ken Appleby.

Ekholm and Viktor Arvidsson also scored for the Penguins.

Penguins 6, Wild 3

Evgeni Malkin finished with two goals and one assist, and Dominik Simon also scored twice as host Pittsburgh defeated Minnesota.

Sidney Crosby also added three assists and moved into second place in team history with 1,082 points. Before the game, Crosby had been tied with Jaromir Jagr.

Goalie Casey DeSmith finished with 23 saves for Pittsburgh, which jumped on top 6-0 before the Wild scored three late goals.

Lightning 5, Flyers 1

Vladislav Namestnikov scored two goals while Brayden Point, Yanni Gourde and Ryan Callahan each scored once to lift visiting Tampa Bay past Philadelphia.

Tampa Bay goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 36 shots in a brilliant performance.

Bruins 3, Senators 2

Jake DeBrusk scored the go-ahead goal with 11:19 remaining to help Boston extend its points streak to 18 games and cap the first half of the season with a victory at Ottawa.

Boston, which won its fifth consecutive game, has not lost in regulation since Dec. 14, going 14-0-4 in that span. The Bruins matched their longest point streak since 1968-69, when Bobby Orr was in his third NHL season.

Blackhawks 5, Red Wings 1

Rookie Alex DeBrincat scored a hat trick in his first game in his home state and visiting Chicago snapped a four-game losing streak by defeating Detroit.

DeBrincat, a 20-year-old winger from Farmington Hills, Mich., increased his season total to 17 goals and added an assist. DeBrincat's three-goal night was the second of his career.

Anthony Duclair scored his first goal with Chicago and chipped in two assists while Vinnie Hinostroza also scored. Anton Forsberg stopped 23 shots for the Blackhawks.

Hurricanes 6, Canadiens 5

Justin Williams scored a go-ahead goal just 10 seconds after Montreal tied the game, allowing Carolina to claim a close victory in Montreal.

The high-scoring game was full momentum shifts. The Canadiens posted four second-period goals but still lost for the second time in three games.

Teuro Teravainen scored twice and added an assist for the Hurricanes, who ended a two-game losing streak going into the All-Star break.

Blues 3, Avalanche 1

Alexander Steen collected one goal and one assist, and goalie Carter Hutton made 36 saves as St. Louis claimed a victory over suddenly struggling Colorado.

The Blues have won two straight and four of their last five games, while the Avalanche have dropped two straight since cobbling together a 10-game winning streak.

Paul Stastny and Brayden Schenn also scored for the Blues. Alexander Kerfoot collected Colorado's lone goal.

Islanders 2, Golden Knights 1

Jaroslav Halak made 38 saves as New York handed Vegas just its third regulation home loss of the season.

The defeat snapped a 12-game point streak at home for Vegas, which had gone 10-0-2 at T-Mobile Arena since a Nov. 28 loss. The Western Conference-leading Golden Knights fell to 19-3-2 at home, still the best home record in the NHL.

Jordan Eberle and Ross Johnston scored for New York. Erik Haula scored for Vegas, and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 23 shots.

Ducks 4, Jets 3 (SO)

Adam Henrique scored the shootout winner after netting one goal and one assist in regulation, leading Anaheim to a win over visiting Winnipeg.

Henrique was the only player from either team to find the mark in a shootout that went five rounds. Anaheim goalie Ryan Miller, who was pressed into action late in the third period and didn't face any shots until the shootout, stopped all five Jets who tried their luck. Ducks starting goalie John Gibson, who made 24 saves, left the game with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation after Jets captain Blake Wheeler lost an edge and crashed into him.

The Ducks won four of five games during a lengthy homestand.

Rangers 6, Sharks 5

Ryan McDonagh finally ended his scoring drought, and in turn snapped New York's losing streak. The team captain's back-to-back goals in a pivotal second period helped the Rangers end a four-game skid with a victory at San Jose.

Kevin Hayes, Jesper Fast, Brady Skjei and J.T. Miller each lit the lamp for New York, which enters the All-Star break on a positive note despite losing six of its past nine games (3-0-6).

The Sharks got a pair of goals from Logan Couture and one each for Barclay Goodrow, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Tomas Hertl.

Sabres 4, Canucks 0

Robin Lehner made 30 saves for his second consecutive shutout as visiting Buffalo blanked Vancouver.

Sam Reinhart, Nicholas Baptiste, Kyle Okposo and Johan Larsson scored for the Sabres as they extended their win streak in Western Canada to three games. Lehner posted his third shutout of the season, exceeding the two he mustered in 2016-17, but he faced few serious tests.

Vancouver goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped 22 of the 25 shots he faced. The Canucks were shut out for the second time in three games.

Oilers 4, Flames 3 (SO)

Connor McDavid scored the shootout winner, and goalie Cam Talbot made 34 saves through regulation and overtime as Edmonton erased a two-goal deficit to defeat visiting.

The Oilers have beaten the Flames in the past seven meetings, including three times this season, and they have won four of five overall. Calgary has dropped four consecutive games, two in overtime and two in shootouts.

McDavid also collected an assist, which gives him nine goals and 15 points in 10 career Battle of Alberta matches.

Blue Jackets 2, Coyotes 1

Cam Atkinson celebrated his return from a broken foot by scoring the winning goal with 3:03 remaining as visiting Columbus defeated Arizona.

Atkinson, who missed 11 games, took a pass through the crease from center Alexander Wennberg and jammed it past goalie Antti Raanta. Sergei Bobrovsky made 38 saves to help the Blue Jackets defeat Arizona for the sixth straight time. Wennberg also had a power-play goal to go with his assist on the game-winner.

Raanta had 25 saves for Arizona, which saw its two-game winning streak end. Brendan Perlini scored his fourth goal in four games for the Coyotes.

Maple Leafs 4, Stars 1

Nazem Kadri scored two goals in the first 30 minutes, and Jake Gardiner and William Nylander had five assists between them as visiting Toronto thumped Dallas.

Toronto is 5-1-2 over its past seven road games.

Dallas had outscored opponents 13-1 over its past two games but had no answer for the Maple Leafs and goalie Curtis McElhinney, who stopped 39 of the 40 shots he faced and kept the Stars scoreless on five power plays.
